This species is one of the few Tillandsias with heavy foliage markings. The base color is greenish to chocolate brown, heavily barred with silver. This extremely attractive, slow growing species is a rock dweller native to the canyons and cliffs of northern Peru. Mature at nearly three feet tall; with a large, heavily branched inflorescence nearly double that size. The foliage is stiff, thick and leathery.
Seldom seen in collections due to its slow reproduction. Most often grown from adventitious offsets that are produced when plants are young, it does also produce ‘normal’ offsets. Grow mounted or potted in a terrestrial mix.
